Huanca Monastery. (Feast Day: September 14)
Our vehicle will pick you up between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. We’ll head to the Sanctuary of the Lord of Huanca (Mercedarios), whose history begins in 1667 with the appearance of Jesus Christ to Diego Quispe. This sanctuary is located high in the mountains at the beginning of the Sacred Valley, offering a wonderful view of the landscape. After about half an hour, we will head towards the picturesque town of Pisac, walk through its colorful streets, taste a delicious homemade empanada and after visiting its beautiful Plaza, we will head towards Calca, the commercial center of the Lares Valley (large producers of coffee and various fruits).
We head to Calispuquio (also known as Canchispuquio), a very well-preserved archaeological site that, in Inca times, was an obligatory stopover and administrative control center between Cusco and Antisuyo, the jungle. After this visit, we head to Calca; it’s time for lunch! We’ll be in a beautiful and cozy country restaurant.
After a restorative lunch, we’ll head to the Uno Urco archaeological site, a new example of the magnificent Inca terraces that have recently been restored.
Finally, to conclude our excursion, we’ll visit the Huandar Suspension Bridge. This ancient bridge spans the Vilcanota River, which runs for a long time until it forms the Ucayali River, which later transforms into the mighty Amazon River.
